Purpose of Position:
- To provide a high degree of mechanical maintenance knowledge to the maintenance execution teams.
- To ensure agreed availability of mechanical equipment by technical inspections and high quality repairs.
- To ensure that the maintenance of production assets and associated equipment are carried out using industry best practices.
- To achieve maximum technical benefits by ensuring standards and specifications are maintained on production facilities.
- To provide technical leadership and guidance to the maintenance execution teams

Site Manager / Maintenance Manager
Principal accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain mechanical technical standards and procedures.
- Prepare, review and update Spare Part Interchangeability Records (SPIR’s) for all mechanical equipment under contract to support Preventive Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance program.
- Develop and review technical standards. This involves the preparation and development of mechanical maintenance procedures and operation guide for technical equipment and installations.
- Keep abreast of all new technologies, statutory regulations and standards in mechanical engineering and adapt to relevant maintenance processes and procedures.
- Develop mechanical equipment improvement proposal and select the most commercially attractive for execution, prepare budgets.
- Assist to develop plant hierarchy.
- To carry out regular technical inspections and audits on production facilities to ensure optimum, safe utilization of equipment and improve availability.
- To advice the Site Manager / Maintenance Engineer on equipment, procedures and systems.
- To maintain a structured interaction and exchange of information.
- To carry out in depth analysis of facilities/equipment to determine areas for possible improvement.
- To find adequate solutions to technical problems.
- To take the lead in the repair of all mechanical equipment.
- To interface with the Production department and ensure that the agreed maintenance execution plan is completed within time and budget.
- Liaise with other departments to review, commission and accept all new mechanical projects.
- Lead and participate in HSE/Technical Audits, design reviews, HAZOP studies, and inspections.
- To identify opportunities for the application of Risk Based Inspection and maintenance techniques with the objective to minimize intervention and improve overall performance.
- To take charge of the Mechanical Workshop and provide a service to other engineers and technicians.
- Familiarize with the use of CMMS (ORACLE or IBM Maximo)
- Assess current status of plants from an Electrical Maintenance point of view and develop short, middle and long term refurbishment program
Key challenges:
- To ensure that the required technical competencies in Mechanical Engineering are sustained for mechanical maintenance staff at all levels and to provide mentor-ship for the development of mechanical technical professionals.
- Raise and monitor project proposals to improve facilities/equipment in the area to safeguard the technical integrity.
- Keep abreast of all statutory regulations, policies and strategies changes, as it affects maintenance execution and application of new technologies.
- Participate in studies/designs/evaluations.
- Analyses problems and undertakes case studies on particular issues.
- Collects and reports appropriate information from discussions and/or study.
- Initiate technical audits and propose solutions to persistent problems.
Necessary Qualification:
- A professionally qualified Maintenance Engineer with at least 8 years of experience in the Mining, Materials Handling or Process Industry.
- Incumbent shall have a University degree (BSc or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and a track record of experience gained.
- Experienced user of CMMS particularly in ORACLE or similar systems like e.g. IBM Maximo
- He must have strong leadership qualities and be able to lead a team of supervisors and technicians.
- He must have the ability to work in a consultancy type environment.
- He must have acquired experience in modern Maintenance Management practices
- He must be fluent in English and/or French, verbally as well as in reading and writing.
